Having a dedicated work space where possible is really useful to maintain separation from home. I also find wearing my regular work clothes also help. Definitely agree re plants! and also a good supply of water to drink 🙂

Drinking more water is something I really need to work on! Great points, Toni Mitchell. Thanks for sharing.

For me, I 100% agree with Toni! Trying to only work in one area of the house and keeping a full bottle of water near is a must (I love water, so that one wasn’t tricky!) Cara de Lange talk on wellbeing has also made me more conscious of taking ’micro-breaks’ and looking away from my screen more. I also need to give a massive shoutout to Robina Sutch for inspiring my daily walks -although sometimes they’re a lot shorter than I’d like haha, they are undoubtedly a new highlight and a habit I hope to stick with!

I schedule at least one call in the morning and one in the afternoon that are phone-only (i.e. Zoom free) so that I can go for a walk in the park. Great for 1:1s that don’t require screen sharing, or general catch-ups with Fiona Chorlton-Voong Jesus Iniesta @mike and others. You can get 4,000 steps in 30 minutes if you walk fast, so that is 8,000 steps per day ’base load’

How quickly do you walk, Ben Legg?!! Though I do love the walking-call initiative too.

I agree with Ben Legg re ensuring that enough of my meetings are calls so that I can go on a daily walk. Someone gave me the great tip of ensuring I put “away from desk” meeting in the calendar so the other party knows they can go for a walk too. My other must is ensuring I have a dedicated break in the day to meditate so I can reset. Otherwise I would just jump from meeting to meeting mindlessly. Having that space to reflect and breathe is so important. I’m on a streak on my headspace and I intend to keep at it!

I’m really strict about separating my work hours from my personal hours. I think it’s important not to let the two blend because that can lead to bad habits down the line. I also exercise regularly and make sure to take plenty of breaks throughout the day so I’m not sitting for 8 hours straight. I make sure to create time for the things I’m passionate about, ensuring a balance between my professional duties and my hobbies so that I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the things I love to do.

I have a morning routine where I meditate, journal, think and usually get a Peloton exercise class in most days. Then I think the healthiest thing I do on autopilot is my diet. I have salad everyday, tumeric shots, fermented foods… you name it. I really notice if I veer off that or have too much coffee!
I’ll go first! I often live very ”all or nothing”, and forming habits can make the rebel in me come out to play! But I know that there are small actions that can really make a difference to my health and my working life. Introducing more ”greenery” into my office has definitely helped (thanks to Duncan Dalzel-Job’s great home office tips) and I like to try to move during the day as I often find hours go by without me doing so! Now the weather has warmed up, it’s a great excuse for me to take five by going and watering the new seedlings in my greenhouse – they get fed, and I get five mins away from the screen.
