HOW WALKING CAN IMPROVE YOUR BRAIN’S HEALTH
I’m feeling very virtuous, right now, so I’m simply confessing from the outset that this post is more about me than it is about you!!
We’re blessed with some incredible parks in the town where I live – literally an embarrassment of riches. A few of them are listed among the UK’s best parks.
So, as we can’t as easily sit & natter in coffee shops in a pandemic, I’ve been doing my networking walking & talking, hot beverage of choice in hand, in our town’s most majestic park, just yards from my town centre office.
I had another wander & natter with one of my oldest suppliers earlier today.
Stunning. We connected over design for print many, many moons ago (she buys print) but today we were talking about my new resilience coaching/speaking business, philosophy, psychology, marxism, racism, capitalism, trauma, & more!
In all the years I’ve known her, I had no idea she had such hidden depth.
Each of the conversations I’ve been having like this of late have been electric. SO rewarding.
From my experience, if you’re keen to build meaningful relationships with people you get on with, doing work that’s less transactional & more about connecting & doing life with real humans, I can’t recommend walking & talking highly enough.
Then this article popped up in my LinkedIn feed [hat tip: Dan Pink] – a brief 4 min read that could help change your life. Literally:

Do you walk & talk when networking or meeting? Will you…?

I love walking meetings Rob Wright! Both with the other person, plus on phone-only with headphones

I love the idea of phone-only with headphones, Ben, but I’m a scrupulous note-taker (writing is thinking) which I’d miss too much when walking…

Good post Rob and agree great way to engage……and do some walking without anyone talking, and think mindfully and explore the world around you. Really look at buildings, trees, birds, animals and people. I mean really look and think. For instance in those parks Rob can you name the trees, bushes and flowers you see?

That’s my wife’s party trick, not mine, Zed. But there is one tree that’s immense – an incredible spectacle that I’m itching to find a name for. I’m all ready to drag a book on trees along to satisfy my curiosity…
