Hi Guys, I wondered if anyone could point me in the direction for some training on basics of finance, accounting and company valuations. I speak to lots of founders of businesses, COO’s and would like to improve upon my basic level of finance. Basic concepts of revenue, EBITDA and PAT, how start up companies are valued, traditional v modern approaches to valuing these companies. Ella Bernie Let me know if you have any ideas.

Hi Charlie – for explanations of finance concepts, I recommend Investopedia. It contains a wealth of definitions and articles explaining the basic concepts of fundamental analysis (EBITDA, IRR, P/E etc.).
For VC valuations in particular, Wall Street Prep has a good article summarizing the VC method (https://www.wallstreetprep.com/knowledge/vc-valuation-6-steps-to-valuing-early-stage-firms-excel-template/).
For a more in-depth read on startup finance, I’ve found Thomas Hellmann’s book helpful (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fundamentals-Entrepreneurial-Finance-Marco-Rin-ebook/dp/B083Y4J9F9). NB – it’s a bit more of a textbook than a casual read 🙂
