My high school friend from Chicago went to a top MBA program and then worked at McKinsey and at startups but felt that in the US more and more business people were becoming less important and tech people were becoming more important. So he did a career change to tech, learned programming for the last 1.5 years and started a Masters in Computer Science.
His dream company is Google.
Me, coming from Europe, I do not understand why, if you already worked at startups and already was a McKinsey consultant, you would want to work at Google. But that is another question.
Does anybody here know any hacks on how really smart people could get a foot into the door at Google? Easier to start outside the US with less competition? Easier to start in business role before moving to tech role?

Hello! I think the most important is to dare to apply for the dream role you want, and do the proper homework for it e.g. find Googlers in that team, see what background they have, network with them, find out what’s beyond the JD and even ask them to refer you. Referrals are highly valued at Google.
Hi Eike, tagging some Xooglers to see if they can give any advice – Alexander Xydas, Pete Romano, Dana Muntean, Ajay Daved, Anne-Marie Headley, Hanna Kivela, Remy Edwards, Zach Newcomb, Ruth Temianka, Swati Rai, Dylan Fuller, Jo Hind, Alex Underwood, ilona van wegen, Jonas Vang Gregersen, Patricia Palacios, Sabina Peskin Coach, Steve Rogers, Alexandra Levy, Ian Myszenski, Philipp von Bieberstein, Jenny Collins
