I’ve submitted my ’Sea Songs’ project to the World Illustration Awards. My instinct was that it’s not the right year to submit, but then I wanted to get the work out there. It was the result of a lot of research, and putting together as part of my MA project. I’m planning on writing a few posts on what it was like making the work.
The sea and its associations and memories are fascinating.
Early on in the project, I watched the film The Beaches of Agnes. (2008.) This memoir-based documentary really showed me the possibilities of creating work related to places which have resonance and importance. Particularly coastal places.

That looks great and good luck. If illustration is like photography, Awards are pretty subjective so best to just put the work out there. I’m equally inspired by coastal places for photography. This is East Mersea on the Essex coast.
