Hi:) I have a client who is exploring buying their co-founder out of their business but they could do with some financial & legal advice on how to value the company and best do the transaction. Thanks Ella for putting this in front of the right people! I’ve got 3 really helpful responses so far from people with diverse and deep skill sets which I’ve shared with my client to decide on how they’d like to proceed. Thanks everyone – your support is very much appreciated!

I think it depends a lot on the stage of the company and business they’re in. Early stage it is a bit more guesswork and driven by investors or board assessment. Later it is a multiple of revenue, which varies between consulting/service business (2-3x) to tech/product-led businesses (>5x, or higher).
