VENTURE BUILDING FOR SOCIAL IMPACT AT ZINC.VC

Who do you know that could tackle the financial crisis faced by hundreds of millions of people?

Zinc is searching for 70 great individuals who want to transform the financial resilience of hundreds of millions of people. Zinc will help these innovative individuals to build an ambitious company from scratch, and then Zinc will invest in the company with up to £250,000 of cash and intensive support from experts and partners.

In April 2023, this group of 70 founders will join a full-time 12-month venture-builder programme. The whole cohort will be focused on this same mission of transforming financial resilience and turning uncertainty into opportunity for millions of people. The mission is particularly focused on the needs of those born in the 1970s and 1980s, most of whom haven’t had real pay increases for a long time and haven’t been investing enough for their future security.

To tackle this mission, the Founders will build new products and services that help millions of people to:

1) Earn more money (e.g. by reinventing career paths, augmenting people with technology, disrupting traditional education and training, assisting relocation and migration, creating new ways of working and earning money).

2) Invest smartly in their own financial security (e.g. by creating new ways to own a home, lifetime financial planning, innovative funding for career development, fresh approaches to saving for the future, unlocking inter-generational wealth, and new ways to insure against risks).

3) Cope better with financial shocks (e.g by improving financial literacy, support for major life events like divorce, breaking the financial spiral of those in debt, access to better value goods and services, peer-to-peer solutions, short-term finance to cope with immediate shocks)

The venture-builder programme gives the 70 founders:

🪙 Investment up to ~£250,000

🪙 A cohort of world-class talented people from which to find their co-Founder

🪙 Access to an extensive and active network of experts, mentors, coaches and investors plus Zinc’s in-house R&D team

🪙 A £12,000 stipend for the first 6 months whilst they explore opportunities and shape their venture

🪙 Free working space in Central London to collaborate, learn and build

Zinc is looking for founders with a diverse range of commercial, technical and domain-expert backgrounds. They expect founders will come from financial services, education and training, deep tech, housing, HR and employment services, NGOs, research, e-commerce and the creative industries.
