We had an interesting discussion – based on a question for Lizzie Bourne yesterday – on how to monetise a podcast yesterday. I thought I would share what I can remember here:
1. Pricing. For low volume ’generic’ audiences, you will only make $2-5 per thousand ads listened to. For larger, more valuable audiences you can make up to $50 per 1,000 ads listened to. So if you could get, say, 10,000 doctors/ vets/ architects/ lawyers to listen to your podcast, you could make around $500 per time.
2. Until you hit scale, big brands won’t pick up the phone, but smaller ’challenger brands’ might. Hunt them out.
3. Apparently Spotify will share ad revenue with you once you hit a certain volume.
Mahdi Shariff – what was the name of the monetisation platform that you mentioned?
Frederick Leuschner, grace olson-davidson Robina Sutch Rus Newton Monsuru Sodeeq Stephen Fleming – what did I miss?
Any other tips?

I mentioned https://anchor.fm/ (which is the spotify newly launch podcast focussed application).
Unless it was patreon (but that’s user donated)
@lizziebournen can you remember?

Do any PR/ Communications people have a bit of spare time and want to give back? Here is a volunteering opportunity for Frontline healthcare. If you know anyone who might be interested, please tag them in the comments for them to see! It’s a great way to apply your skills to help create positive change, and your support will contribute to connecting healthcare workers with the resources they desperately need! If the commitment isn’t suitable for you but if you’re interested, you can still offer your support and discuss a more suitable arrangement that fits your schedule! https://www.goodsted.com/challenges/ckiqa288id7nd01065djkwyk4

Would be great to get your thoughts on the Goodsted platform too – good and bad. Am on the board so happy to feed it back. Selin, the founder, is married to Luke Ducker in our community

Expertise is valuable. So is a fresh perspective. So is flexibility. I could go on. As a focused portfolio professional you bring all of that and more to your clients, so why shouldn’t you be charging a decent rate...
