Hello all. Can you help?! I’m writing an article on how to network online, and I would love any stories you have about 1. Showing someone your expertise via pro bono work which then turned into paid work, or 2. An example of getting work through networking – this could be deliberate networking via linkedIn or a similar platform, or just via a friend of a friend or distant contact. Please do message me with your experiences or thoughts if you’re happy to be mentioned. Thank you!

Ah wait, I’ve got another story. Since 2016, I’ve been writing articles about the GDPR and broader data privacy issues. In early 2018, I published one of the articles on LinkedIn. I shortly received a connect request from someone in the US, whose company was ready to expand to Europe and wanted to understand the implications for them of the GDPR. Two scooping calls later, they flew me to Maine for a full-day workshop with about 20 key staff.

Hi Paula, i have a recent story which might be of interest. i joined a virtual animal health conference a few months back. the vice president of a pet-tech start up saw my profile and we had a 15min chat. This was followed by a longer consultation – they were interested in entering the European market but needing help with further clinical studies and publications in the UK, and market insight. After another chat, this time with the CEO, i was offered a job with them…which i politel…

Thanks Silvia. Lovely to be offered a job, even if that’s not what you are after!

So very impressed with how the catapult course is weaving its magic. It was so inspirational today to hear that some have now set up their own companies, that others have built there own websites, and some have committed to training. Sure there are some of us who are still struggling to define our future, but what truly resonates is that each of us is determined to make a change. TPC provides the tools, support and framework for us to make these difficult decisions. Together as cohort 2 we are establishing bonds and working together to ensure we all succeed in launching our new portfolio career- whatever form that takes.
For me personally, I’m just chuffed to have made it to the internal memo stage:
’to all TPC crew, please ensure that at all costs Steve Reader is not able to share his personal screen with the rest of his cohort- I’m not sure our insurance covers it!’
Once a disrupter, always a disrupter!
Another great week. Well done to all team and…

”There are lots of traps in life. There are failure traps when we aren’t good at something. But there are also success traps where we are good at something that isn’t our highest point of contribution.” From Greg McKeown’s The Essentialist Newsletter on LinkedIn…Highly recommend

Just a note to say I am missing the build your co, build your website sessions because it is half term and because I’ve done these things before – though forgive me for not being there to support my cohort.

For Starters – I could do with some help finalising the icons I am using to explain my ‘Top 10 Tips’ on how to design your home office.
I have decided on a style guide as can be seen in action on Rethink Home Working
For reference I have already more or less decided on three of the 10 icons as can be found on the following page – https://rethinkhomeworking.com/top-tips
The final 7 can be seen on https://rethinkhomeoffice.squarespace.com/top-ten-tips-icons
Many thanks in advance for your help!

I love the icon for temperature – not one I would normally associate, but then it clicked instantly with the Goldilocks reference! Also love your lighting one in the 7 you’re working on. The only one that doesn’t work for me without explanation is colour – could it be a colour palette instead like:

Hi Paula — It hasn’t yet led to work but . . . . I became aware of an online meeting platform that’s developed here in Berlin, and asked one of the founders on LinkedIn for a briefing. After that chat, I spent a full day doing a heuristic analysis of the user experience on the platform, which amounted to some 40+ slides. That was warmly received. I followed up with a note outlining the multiple ways I could benefit the company, either as a consultant or on staff, and we’…
