Question on messaging platforms – has anyone found a tool suitable for work like slack/teams/whatsapp/telegram that also has a translate function similar to linkedin/facebook?
Good question, Duncan Dalzel-Job.
Since just 26 days ago, Telegram offers built-in translation. It needs to be enabled from settings. More info here: https://telegram.org/blog/reactions-spoilers-translations
Slack has a variety of apps that can help with this available from their marketplace: https://slack.com/apps/search?q=translate. Although many of them seem to offer some kind of free tier, looks like most of them are paid.
Another option would be to install the Google Translate bro…

This is great, thanks Jesus. I will try enabling the telegram version for starters.

I am looking for recommendations for a reliable/trusted finance platform where I can pay international freelancers. Escrow account facility would be helpful and a clear digital (paper) trail for invoicing/tax essential. Googling it – seems that paypal is a good start. I have also found ’transferwise’ or ’payoneer’ or ’venmo’.
Any experience/advice?

Hi Duncan, tagging some freelancers who might be able to help – Lexi Radcliffe-Hart, Saeed Ahmad, @felix-reiners, Annabel Lee, Nina Lenton, Andrea Ciganikova, Sapphire Stothert, Hazel Brown

Hi Duncan. Transferwise is now known as Wise. I think they are FCA regulated and are a multi-billion £ unicorn. I have used a personal account with them over the years and found them excellent. They offer multiple currencies, narrow FX rates and low charges. You can also set up a business account with them, which I have also done.
I have used Payoneer to pay a freelancer in Bangladesh, at his request. It worked and he was happy, They charge a fee.
I can’t think of anyone offer…

Hello James,
thank you for your thoughts. I will definitely have a look at transferwise for the next arrangement. I have gone with Paypal for the latest freelance payment as we were both already set up on the platform.
To date I have used people per hour and upwork and I found out recently from a freelancer on pph that he is paying a 20% fee so anything below that is favourable, if secure. Pph have an escrow account system (in name at least) which is probably good for first-time contracts.

Seconding for Wise – that’s the way I’ve received payments from international clients and it’s been very straight forward from my perspective – no different to receiving a bank transfer, if a little longer to get to me.

Hi Duncan, I also use transfer wise – now Wise – and have had no issues either getting paid or paying out across different currencies.

I have used Paypal too but I find it a bit more laborious for some reason – Wise seems to make it all very straightforward.

Hi, is this a regular meet-up or just when we plan something ahead? Is this group the best place to communicate or in the messages section?

Website queries – I am improving/updating my architecture company’s website with an eye on business development and need a bit of advice before I dive in.
Background – The main aim of my website is to impress potential clients who have heard about me and want to find out more about my work. The (close) second goal is to increase business through traffic/google search/SEO/Ads. Most of my clients (65%+) will be homeowners looking for an architect to manage their project. The rest will be B2B in the office and retail sectors.
The existing website is currently on WordPress but currently I am more used to Squarespace having made a new website with Sqsp last year.
Website sections will be HOME/ABOUT/PROJECTS(with sub-sections)/SERVICES/CONTACT. Probably a single scrolling page but I am not set on this.
1. Should I transfer from WP to Sqsp or stay with WP based on my needs?
2. Which is better for SEO given my field and who most of my clients will be?
3. Do…

Hey Duncan, hope you’re good 🙂
I’ve done a couple of WP to SquareSpace migrations for personal and professional projects so just thought I would share my thoughts.
1. Should I transfer from WP to Sqsp or stay with WP based on my needs? — That depends on a few things. Personally, I find Squarespace lower maintenance, which gives me more time to focus on other things. WP does offer more flexibility if you ever needed to do a lot of customization. But it sounds like your …

Happy to jump on a call with you to chat through this with you. I’m not a website developer but might be able to give some advice. I might be able to point you in the direction of a few web guys I know too!

Hi Duncan Dalzel-Job . I am doing similar right now and updating my 4 year old site. I am talking to Conrad Young who you may wish to as well.

Duncan Dalzel-Job started the topic Someone to help me find CEOs/Directors/HR/Heads of People needing a WfH designer in the forum
I'm looking for.. . in the group I'm looking for.. .
Now I have a clear concept of my business’s Minimum Value Proposition (MVP) I need to connect with CEOs/Directors/HR/Heads of People to offer them my home office design service. Although HR and Heads of People are the goal I think that I may be more successful targeting CEOs/Directors who will then direct me to HR etc.
I probably need around 2-3000 new contacts to have a realistic chance of securing new clients. These would be UK-based companies with 10+ staff who are working remotely.
Can anyone advise the best cost-effective way of going about this?

So in previous lives when I’ve worked for corporates, I’ve had access to things like FAME/BvD where you could run down companies via a profile and then work out the contacts from there. But that can be a time/cost blackhole. As you have a clear idea of your audience, I would think that you can do some pragmatic reach-out in a non-sales manner via LinkedIn using a bot as an initial step for you to then continue the conversation from there. Ben Legg or @mike – could you provide …

Hi Duncan,
You could try licensing LinkedIn Sales Navigator plus Meet Alfred. The two combined will cost you around $110 per month. For that, you can:
1) Do all sorts of detailed searches in Sales Navigator, then save those searches
2) From Meet Alfred, import those lists from Sales Navigator then send connection requests
3) For those that accept, create a separate subgroup and send a personalised message
To avoid getting shut down by LinkedIn, there are volume caps. Typically max…
