Today is World Mental Health Day
As you know, one of the reasons why we created TPC is because we know having a portfolio career can sometimes be lonely and we didn’t want anyone to feel like they were going through it alone.
If you are feeling a bit lonely, or stuck in a rut please do reach out for help! We’d love to help connect you to likeminded and supportive people
This year we wanted to share our work-from-home habits that will help you thrive both personally and professionally (click to read!)
Do you have any top tips for creating healthy habits when working from home? Let us know in the comments below

I think it’s much harder to give yourself permission to have a break when you’re working from home. In an office space, chance encounters for a conversation, or the need to go out to get lunch, can create valuable time away that allows you to return to the task with fresh eyes and renewed energy.
So I’ve recently tried to adopt an education strategy called DEAR – Drop Everything and Read. It’s often used at the start of every lesson as a way of helping the trans…

You’re so right about giving yourself permission to take a break when working from home – I think in my head I justify not having a break by saying that I’m at home anyway so don’t really need a break even though I do! Love the idea of DEAR too Maria

Happy Monday everyone
As portfolio professionals usually have some degree of working from home within their career I thought this week I’d ask…
How do you maintain a good work-life balance when working from home?
I’ve heard all sorts of tactics, from changing outfits at the end of a work day, to being strict with boundary setting and everything in between, but it can still be difficult to get that balance completely right (guilty!)
Let me know what you do to maintain a good work-life balance whilst working from home in the comments

I have actually worked from home for the past 8 years of working and so for me anything else would seem weird. Definitely having a dedicated work space is beneficial as it helps to separate work and home mindset. I make myself leave the house at lunch and I have a strict step away from my desk at 6.30pm as I need to prepare dinner

Worked at home for a number of years. Having a separate space to work that you can walk away from is key. I try to get out of the house once a day either a walk to the shops, into town or go in the garden for an hour.
-
Having a separate space has really been a gamechanger for me. When I lived at home I used to have to work from my (tiny) box room but now I have more space it’s much easier to keep a bit of work life balance!

Calendar management is essential. Don’t just put in work meetings, but block time for exercise, family, clearing emails etc. All colour coded by category – paid work, non-paid work, networking, family/ health etc.
I also aim for at least two walking meetings per day – either in person or on the phone.
-
I had to do some re-defining around my tech equipment. Laptop is for work only. Tablet is for all things leisure. Often I like working from hotels/co-workings, especially in the afternoon! When I close my laptop and walk back home, then it means I am done for the day 🙂

Happy Wednesday everyone
For this week’s poll of the week I thought I’d ask… what’s the best skill to have as a portfolio professional?
There’s obviously so many different skills and it will in no doubt vary from person to person, but I’d love to hear what you think and why! Let’s chat in the comments below

All of these skills are important Ella Bernie. However, I would put hustle top of the list. The constant drive to learn more, network better, build your personal brand, dazzle your clients, be more productuve etc.
Not sure if that is a trait or a skill, but it is critical to success.

good time management is an interesting one….. you say Good and my first thought is good at working conventional 9-5 get stuff done. What I’ve realised over the last year is ’good’ for me looks totally different to ’good’ for others. I’m so much more productive since i realised that i dont work well in the mornings so am better taking time to do some exercise, run errands etc then aim to be hitting flow late afternoon, early evening. Solves the 3 hours of…

Lol!
Claire Hodgson, you make me laugh – you also give me a reminder that not ebveryone is the same as me 🙂
Morning is my best time, post-lunch to end of day -1 hour is so dead for me, thats where I dump meetings. (and 1 hour before CoB I get a second win to get stuff done!)

Hey Ella, thanks for tagging me! I’m not able to make the session at 5 unfortunately, in the middle of a manic time with reviews and allsorts with the end of Q3. I’m hoping to get more time onto studying and will be back on the call next week 🙂
