Our Fireside on the art of smart networking is coming up this Friday at 1pm (BST)
We’ll be joined by networking experts Alan Tang, Aušrinė Keršanskaitė and Rhonda Alexander who’ll be ready to share their top tips, answer all your questions and give practical advice
Before Friday’s event I thought I’d ask… what’s your favourite way to network?
Vote in our poll and leave your thoughts in the comments

My favourite is in-person, but that doesn’t mean it is the only way, or even the most efficient. But it is fun! In reality I network in many, many ways

I’m sure a lot of you know the wonderful Alex Pitt from our community and I know some of you have even listened to her podcast – Build Your Maverick Business
Well in this week’s episode our personal branding masterclass gets a cheeky shoutout

Another amazing episode from the fabulous Alex Pitt ❤️. Alex, I didn’t know Tumblr was still a thing?!?
-
Tumblr getting a bit of a revival as Instagram’s TIK Tok obsession is peeing off photographers and creators who don’t want to make videos.
-
-
I’ll now also always think of creating breakout rooms as going off to judges houses on XFactor
-
Cheers loves! Any excuse to plug Harry Potter AND TPC in one 15-minute burst 😂
-
Not sure how great Harry became at that one spell or he just had very skilled and powerful witches and wizards around him that always saved his behind!

Happy Monday everyone
I don’t know about you but the month of September always brings me a new sense of motivation
With schools back in session and a renewed sense of focus in the air I wanted to ask…
What’s the best piece of advice you ever recieved?

I got a lot of great advice over the years 😉 One of my fav is ‘everything happens for a reason, even if you may not know it yet’ …. I feel it’s both calming and motivating.

-
‘The other person doesn’t have to be wrong for you to be right.’
This changed my outlook massively.
-
I remember being told by a client at the start of my career – ”if you want to ’do’ big, you have to think big”. That still resonates with me.
-
A good one from the City is ”avoid making enemies [not be a doormat], it’s a small world”. There was also something about wanting a friend and getting a dog but that’s of less relevance in this charming forum.
-
It wasn’t said to me in this way but can be summarised as ’Some people never get heard, it’s surprising what they’ll tell you if you listen.’
-
’Its all about the sales stupid!’ And the really old one Revenue is vanity – Profit is sanity, although we all know the nuances with that in business scaling.
-
-
As it’s the 31st of August I thought I’d ask – what would you like to achieve by the end of next month?
No matter how big (or small!), it’s always good to think ahead and we can use this post as a bit of accountability for each other

I’ll go first
by the end of next month I’d like to have set up my first email campaign!
-
I’d love to have finished my no-code project that I’m building in the property space!
-
I’d like to reach out to 20 companies/people to find out what are their needs in the machine learning space.
-
I hope to have at least 10 new clients introduced to us via our business development programme, which would mean:
1) The programme is working
2) 10 of our members are earning £1,000 commission (or more)
3) Those new clients will brings us many more opportunities for our community
-
Great question…
By the end of September, I would like to have achieved the following:
1. EIS forms submitted to HMRC
2. Reach out to 10x companies as research/lead generation for side business.
3. Publish first Thought Leadership blog
-
This sounds great Jake – what’s the thought leadership piece going to be about?
-
It’s a piece on why Housing Associations and other registered social landlords are uniquely placed to create Social Value, particularly at a time where software is readily available to help scale for impact. I’ll be sure to link to it in the community once published 🙂
