If the idea of ‘bounce’ is to offload ideas whatever shape or form, then here goes:
In my opinion what is currently the number 1 differentiator between TPC and LinkedIn?
Personal service
Clearly TPC is just setting out and this will no doubt change over time to become depersonalised. However, this to me is a premium offering.
I may be wrong, but you will never have the same experience of meeting new contacts on Ln.
Stay with me on this. In my mind I’m thinking of walking into a club where your PC heroes are framed in platinum on the wall as you walk down to a private room. You are greeted by the host who welcomes you to a select room and makes sufficient intros to get people talking. There is a sense you are not purely a number. I believe people will pay a premium for this. It doesn’t have to necessarily be exclusive. Translate this online.
Wall of Fame- these are people we can look up to and aspire to be. Shows how they have adjusted to have …

That’s what I like about you Lexi, always 3 steps ahead on the curve!

In a nutshell, people present their CVs in LinkedIn whereas TPC is a place for portfolios. It is difficult to create a LinkedIn profile because CVs present everything in a sequential order based on many assumptions such as; you need (or want) to climb up corporate ladders, hold only one current position, only your recent experience matters, and you have a fixed location. I prepared a stable portfolio description in one day.

Alex Pitt posted in the group I'm looking for.. .
Hi everyone! I’m looking for connections…since launching my business I’ve found a new love for networking and coffee chats to find out what people are up to day-to-day in their business. Maybe its the part of me that misses the office environment (and chats by the water-cooler), but if you’d like a friendly hello over a virtual coffee give me a shout!

If you haven’t already, Nicola Twiston Davies would be a great one to have a coffee chat with Alex Pitt as she is starting up her business.

@Nicola and I had a virtual walk and talk meet up yesterday at lunchtime – worked a treat! – Nicola was in london and I in a park in Kent, the 30mins just flew by. Happy to repeat and make new friends

Would be great to have a coffee chat with you 🙂 Drop me a message!

Hey Alex, I have been a lot of virtual networking recently and would be delighted to talk biz. Please feel free to book a slot here https://calendly.com/zarir-zed-vakil/60min with me. I would be very pleased to talk. But beware I might pick your brains again on my story which I have been trying out!

I have been approached by the CEO of Excell Group, a £40m revenue technology company who help businesses with their software, IT infrastructure, security and more.
They have asked us to round up a diverse group of portfolio professionals for a discussion about new and future working habits – of companies such as our clients – plus their product/ service needs. So we need people focused on the future of the office, collaboration, communication needs, productivity, and more. We are planning a 60 minute brainstorm on the subject and I am hoping to pull in 5-6 people from our community (or people who belong in our community but haven’t joined yet).
Any takers or suggestions? Duncan Dalzel-Job Andrew Daly Eike Post Paul David Mather @mike Anuraag Jain Santi Ureta Brian Mooney

Hey Ben, Nisha Ramchandani is a former colleague of mine who has spent the best part of the last 4-5 years focused on researching the future of work. She also writes a regular column for a media outlet and hosts a podcast on similar topics. I reckon she’d be a good addition.

Very interesting Niall Brady – definitely a question that comes up a lot in the community. We are hosting a fireside chat event on the topic of ”Knowing your worth” where I am sure this will be covered. Hope to see you there! https://share.hsforms.com/1XvFRHI8_TpaIjL7-4GBzKg4sm69

What a timely post! So looking forward to next week’s fireside, and I’ll make sure to include some of the points raised as questions for our panel!

Happy New Year Community! I’m going to kick us off with something heavy… but I wondered over Christmas how many portfolio careerists were planning pension or financial future as part of their forecasting and planning?
We didn’t cover this in detail during Catapult but we did talk about building a sustainable financial future e.g. taking equity / stock options as payment, creating a buffer to help protect you in case of getting sick, what to do with profit etc.
Did you know that if you are self-employed and pay into a pension, the Government will add 25% contribution on top? There are various apps like Penfold or NEST that are a good place to find out more.
Any other thoughts or additions on this topic you think Portfolio Professionals need to think about?

Very interesting point Laura Thomas that we often overlook when self employed. I have a Lifetime ISA that the government tops up by 25% annually for my pension pot. It’s a great incentive to save for the future!
