HOW WALKING CAN IMPROVE YOUR BRAIN’S HEALTH
I’m feeling very virtuous, right now, so I’m simply confessing from the outset that this post is more about me than it is about you!!
We’re blessed with some incredible parks in the town where I live – literally an embarrassment of riches. A few of them are listed among the UK’s best parks.
So, as we can’t as easily sit & natter in coffee shops in a pandemic, I’ve been doing my networking walking & talking, hot beverage of choice in hand, in our town’s most majestic park, just yards from my town centre office.
I had another wander & natter with one of my oldest suppliers earlier today.
Stunning. We connected over design for print many, many moons ago (she buys print) but today we were talking about my new resilience coaching/speaking business, philosophy, psychology, marxism, racism, capitalism, trauma, & more!
In all the years I’ve known her, I had no i…

I love walking meetings Rob Wright! Both with the other person, plus on phone-only with headphones

I love the idea of phone-only with headphones, Ben, but I’m a scrupulous note-taker (writing is thinking) which I’d miss too much when walking…
-
Best for general catch-ups and, if the other person is the office, I just get them to put any key points on an email.

Doing a photography one tomorrow, Going on a scouting trip to Suffolk.

If you’re anywhere near Ipswich town centre, do holler. Hot bevy’s on me…

I’ll wave as I go past. Literally just a day trip to check out a few coastal locations but I’ll remember for the future.

Really interesting Rob, and definitely something I want to start doing more!

Good post Rob and agree great way to engage……and do some walking without anyone talking, and think mindfully and explore the world around you. Really look at buildings, trees, birds, animals and people. I mean really look and think. For instance in those parks Rob can you name the trees, bushes and flowers you see?
-
That’s my wife’s party trick, not mine, Zed. But there is one tree that’s immense – an incredible spectacle that I’m itching to find a name for. I’m all ready to drag a book on trees along to satisfy my curiosity…

Rob. Use this https://apps.apple.com/us/app/picturethis-plant-identifier/id1252497129 and impress your wife.

Without exaggeration, that is probably one of the best apps I’ve ever seen. THANK YOU, Zed! Has immediately helped me with my office plants…

HOW TO GET HARD THINGS DONE – & NOT QUIT
Ever felt resistance doing anything hard?
I used to be very overweight as a very young kid. My mother was from the school of thought that a well-fed child was a healthy child!!
So when my Dad asked me if I wanted a bike & I said no, he couldn’t get his head around it & started to give me some real grief.
I did want a bike, but I didn’t want a bike. Because I instinctively knew how hard it would be for a kid my size to learn.
I eventually pushed past that fear & learnt.
But such self-limiting beliefs – sometimes running on a loop in our subconscious – often shoulder charge us away from things we can actually do, & trip us up as we reach for things we actually want.
Everything worthwhile we want is usually on the other side of hard things.
So if you want to get out of your own way & get some hard things done, do join my ’WE ARE GIANT’ Clubhouse today.
You’ll get…

I run a weekly conversation on the social audio app Clubhouse every Thursday, 8pm UK time (3pm EST) where I talk about how we can be more GIANT when facing tough times.
To be more GIANT (to be bigger inside than life is outside) takes resilience – the promise of the human spirit to be able to face down change, challenge & complexity & still move forward faithfully & optimistically.
And GIANT exists to help you make good on that promise by helping you to harness some key emoti…

Hi Rob, I think it’s easy to let things that you’re not as confident in limit you if you’re not being proactive in unlearning certain thoughts- definitely something I’m working on!
-
Too right, Ella. It’s why I have coaches, accountability partners & am in mentoring groups. As an independent creative, I’ve spent so much of my career processing my thoughts in silent solitude, I never discovered the benefits of doing it out loud in company, & gleaning the benefits of different perspectives & insights…
-
Completely agree, I think that’s why it’s important to have a good community support system around you, especially as a portfolio professional or independent creative where you may often be working alone!
