Am I allowed to be heretical & say I’m not an overwhelming fan of finding balance?!
Like all good ideas that were key for their time, they can all too easily get distorted & over-emphasised.
So if we’re not careful, trying to find balance is like going on a spectacular road trip & spending most of the time monitoring our tyre pressure gauge.
Whereas for me, boundaries is a much richer, more fertile field to explore, whose insights can yield balance benefits without some of its shortcomings. So very much looking forward to hearing from Ben on this…

We love hearing different points of view on our Let’s Talk subjects and this is exactly the kind of discussion we want to have! I find the subject of balance difficult because I often swing from all or nothing and middle-ground is fertile ground for unsustainable/unachievable standards – rather with boundaries I can create spaces for me to do all the work or have all the downtime I need, flexing more with working and personal cycles.
Like I say, I’m really looking forward to discussing it further!

I can’t make the session on Tues (I have a boundary around doing nursery pick-up on a Tuesday
) but agree with Rob. It’s all about the ’work-lfe blend’ for me; sometimes it’s not very balanced – but as long as the blend is good overall, I’m winning.-
You’re not alone Rob. I think balance means different things to different people – it could be a 60/40 work/life or an 80/20 if that’s what the individual wants. It’s the boundaries that are critical.
