We had an interesting discussion – based on a question for Lizzie Bourne yesterday – on how to monetise a podcast yesterday. I thought I would share what I can remember here:
1. Pricing. For low volume ’generic’ audiences, you will only make $2-5 per thousand ads listened to. For larger, more valuable audiences you can make up to $50 per 1,000 ads listened to. So if you could get, say, 10,000 doctors/ vets/ architects/ lawyers to listen to your podcast, you could make around $500 per time.
2. Until you hit scale, big brands won’t pick up the phone, but smaller ’challenger brands’ might. Hunt them out.
3. Apparently Spotify will share ad revenue with you once you hit a certain volume.
Mahdi Shariff – what was the name of the monetisation platform that you mentioned?
Frederick Leuschner, grace olson-davidson Robina Sutch Rus Newton Monsuru Sodeeq Stephen Fleming – what did I miss?
Any other tips?

I mentioned https://anchor.fm/ (which is the spotify newly launch podcast focussed application).
Unless it was patreon (but that’s user donated)
@lizziebournen can you remember?

So interesting! Fiona Chorlton-Voong will love this as an MBTI coach. I got problem solver, which is no surprise to me but the way they test you is so interesting! Thanks for sharing Damien

Very interesting indeed. This definitely lends to a lot of the MBTI model and your natural preference, which is when you will do your best work. I got Change Maker. Probably not a big surprise why I’ve worked in digital transformation for last few years. Interested to see what Ben Legg and Jesus Iniesta get!

For me: Front Runner: Opens the way
Your unique transformation type is most closely aligned to the Front Runner. In particular, you are not afraid to move towards fast-changing environments and feel comfortable with the exploration of alternatives. By nature, you are good at recognizing patterns and enjoy the search for strategies that can cope the future challenges. You are very goal-focused and prefer well-defined patterns of communication as well as clear distributed roles within your team…

Ben Legg and Jesus Iniesta looks like we’re a perfect match with our natural skill set then 👍🏽. Not that we didn’t already know that 😉☺️

Love that we’re both problem solvers but probably come at it from very different directions!

I am looking for a SW developer with payment app and mobile app experience. The project is to create a Person to Person transfer of funds using a mobile app. The transaction is initiated through the app ( payee) and authenticated by the payer using a unique QR code. once authenticated agreed funds flow from payer to payee. Both parties sign up for the service which would securely hold personal and baning details plus reporting. The end to end payment transaction would need to be facilitated via…

Damien You could also speak to a few in my connections, if you wish so, in Canada as well as India (where the feature and functionalities you envision are pretty prevalent under the banking system). Please also do let me know, if you need any help around the product management for the solution, as I have deep PM expertise in the money transfer services and wallet mechanisms within India as well as international remittances

It came up in Monday’s session – the cognitive bias known as the Dunning-Kruger effect where your competence can drive some imposter syndrome at certain points.
If we can help anyone move out of the ’Valley of Despair’ and up the ’Slope of Enlightenment’ then we are doing our jobs well!
